This weekend Sam had his first piece of homework to do!! Well actually we both had a bit of homework to do. Sam had to tell me all about himself and I had to write it down.
This is what he said ….
‘ My name is Samuel Payne and I am four. I have four brothers called Jamie, Ollie, Sam and Archie. I like playing transformers and Cbeebies on the computer and playing playmobile and lego and dressing up as Batman and making dens. My favourite game is the ‘Ladybird Game’ and ‘Guess Who’ and I am really good! I like making up long stories with my playmobile people and lego and gormitti when I am in the bath. When I grow up I want to be a Power Ranger or Batman or a snowboarding teacher – It’s really hard to decide! Last week we did lots of fun things – we went crab fishing, did three parks in one day, made a crumble, went conker collecting, had breakfast and tea at the beach, had a party with my new school friends, went to Moors Valley and went swimming. I like going to school because it is fun!’
He drew a picture and we chose photos to put on the back and Sam instructed me to draw little pictures next to the words so he would be able to read it and generally it was a really fun experience for us both. It also reminded me of when I had done this same piece of homework with Jamie and Ollie and I can still remember some key parts of what they said.
This is what Jamie said five years ago…
‘ My name is Jamie Samuel Payne. In my family there is Mummy, Daddy, Ollie and me. we are going to have another baby. It is going to be a boy. When I grow up I want to be a ‘jam maker’. Jam maker is quite a long word. I think I need some new swimming trunks. I like to go swimming and I have got my 20 metres badge. I like seeing Granny and Grandpa who live up the big hill and Daddy’s Granny and Grandpa.’

and this is what Ollie said three years ago ….
‘ My name is Oliver Robin Douglas Payne and I am 4. When grow up I want to be ‘Dot Man’ because I want to save the world and rescue people. Yesterday a bumble bee stung me when I was walking home from school. It left it’s bottom in my thumb and then it flew off and didn’t say sorry.
I know that Ollie actually said a bit more than this but at the moment I can’t find a photo.
Oh how much they have changed, how much they have achieved, how their likes and dislikes are ever changing and how their vision of their future is ever evolving and developing but these pieces of writing provide a real snap shot of just how they were aged 4! A time when they truly believed that when they grew up they really would be able to fly like Batman and Dot Man and when their biggest worry was that their swimming trunks were getting too small.
Being 4 is fab!
