Happy World Down Syndrome Awareness Day

We don’t really do anything amazingly special to celebrate ‘World Down Syndrome’ Day, but the date 21st March (to represent three copies of the 21st chromosome) will always hold a special place in my heart.  A simple reminder of how lucky we are to have Archie.  This day to me, represents the love we have for Archie and how fiercely proud we are to be his parents, how much his siblings and family adore him and how our friends embrace, support, encourage him and strive to include him.

But on a wider scale it celebrates the beauty in difference where individuals with the diagnosis of Down Syndrome are recognised for their worth, uniqueness, beauty, hopes and dreams.  For their feelings, individual personalities, strengths and weaknesses and their contribution that they can make to the world.  Everyone has a gift to share with the world : it just needs to be recognised.
