Their next event is the Teign Artists Main Annual Event “Six Days of Art – 2011” and it runs through 28th, 29th, 30th May and 3rd, 4th, 5th June 2011.  Basically different artists from all over South Devon will be exhibiting their work at various locations around the Teign Valley.  For more information on the trail between the artists’ open studios and galleries do visit their website www.teignartists.co.uk My Mum is friends with someone who will be hosting one of the exhibitions at her house – Mallands Barn, Ingsdon, Newton Abbot and we were delighted when Adele suggested that Down Syndrome Education would be a chosen charity of ‘Six Days of Art’ at Mallands.

This is what we wrote…

We are delighted that ‘Six Days of Art’ at Mallands has chosen Down Syndrome Education International as a chosen charity.

Down Syndrome Education International is a UK-based charity that works throughout the UK and around the world to improve education for young people with Down Syndrome through scientific research and global information and advice services.  Central to their work is the sharing of the practical outcomes of scientific research that helps to improve life for young people with Down Syndrome and their families.   Over the last 30 years, their work has led to many key advancements in research and education for individuals with Down syndrome.

We have been privileged to have used this charity and will do for many, many years to come.

This is our story….

Six months ago, on November 10th, 2010, our fifth son, Archie Alexander Payne made his surprise arrival into the world.  The excitement of his little body being placed in our arms was quickly jolted when we were told that he came with a little something extra…a 47th chromosome.  Archie has Down Syndrome and like many others we have stepped out on this enlightening and at times painful journey.  The process of acceptance of Archie’s diagnosis has come through support from each other, the love of our children and family, friends, through education and mainly through falling in love with Archie himself.

We are learning more every day, and, through Archie, we are discovering a new world of acceptance and opportunity for the many individuals in our world with Down Syndrome.  Down Syndrome Education International helps spread this awareness and creates more opportunities for the world to understand that we are more alike than different.  It works to create a culture that fully accepts and includes people with Down Syndrome.  Your donations will help support the vision of a world, in which all people with Down Syndrome have the opportunity to enhance their quality of life and realise their life aspirations.

As Archie’s parents our biggest hope for Archie is for him to find his place in the world.  We want him to be part of a world that sees him just as he is, a beautiful boy with potential and abilities and a bright future.  We want him to be part of a world which recognises the beauty of differences.

Any proceeds over this week will help continue Down Syndrome Education International’s work in investing in all people with Down Syndromes’ future.

Once again we feel very lucky to have the support of friends and family and wish ‘Six Days of Art’ ever success.
