Summer Holiday 2011 begins!

It seems to have been quite a significant amount of time since we last posted – apologies for that.  It is that time of year, when as teachers we are careering towards the big summer holidays with increasingly more to do and less time to do it.  This year has been specifically worse as we also arranged to leave for our summer holiday on the same night as we broke up – leaving at 7pm to drive to the Channel Tunnel, crossing to France and then driving for a further ten or so hours to arrive at the campsite to set up our home for a while.

In the tunnel - Harry still trapped in his seat!

The journey wasn’t quite as smooth as planned.  The Eurotunnel failed to put us on our booked train and so we had to wait a further two hours until 0120am before the next one.  Then I kept getting tired and needed to stop for 20 minutes sleep on the drive, and eventually we arrived at the campsite at 4.30pm.  About 21 hours in total, I believe.  Not our most successful holiday start.  Anyway, as I write this, I am sitting in the tent in the middle of a campsite, overlooking a beautiful lake and Jamie and Ollie have just returned from the shower.  Harry, Sam and Archie are asleep at the moment, and we are preparing for a couple of days of bunker mentality as it is supposed to be very rainy for the next coupe of days.  It certainly hasn’t been warm so far…

It’s a sign of how far things have progressed that sitting on the laptop in the middle of a campsite in France, connected to the internet is something I almost expect to be able to do rather than wonder at the prospect.  However, the purpose of this post is to check in and start the blogging again – we will hope to backdate some entries in the next few days.

I hope the sun shone and you all had a great holiday in France. Have just returned from a great Mull trip and seen Paull today who is setting off tomorrow with his 3 lovely children to spend a well earned bit of R and R on Mull.
