Happy Birthday Harry!

I had to get up and leave early this morning as usual so that I could get to work, however we had enough time to do the usual family routine celebrating Harry’s birthday.  This means that the birthday boy gets to come into our bed and sit between Hilary and I, and the other brothers sit at the end of the bed and pass the presents over.  This particular tradition is stolen directly from the traditions of my youth growing up in Nottingham.

Hilary is hiding in this photo ‘cos she wasn’t feeling well and was NOT going to appear in any pictures just after she had woken up, understandably.  However, at the other end of the bed were three rather more willing photographic subjects:

and lying in the corner was the last member of the Band of 5.

So Harry was able to open up his first present which was greeted with a highly excited shout of ‘PePeeg!!‘ (Pepper Pig).  When he woke up his bedroom had various balloons strewn around it which were also greeted with the shriek of ‘Boon!‘.  There are many more presents to be unwrapped and at the moment he will doubtless be attempting to milk the occasion of his birthday to get more food, drink, biscuits or anything else edible.  Not because it’s his birthday, but because it’s his default setting.  Birthday tea is tonight, followed by the rest of his presents.

We’ve also decided to start a tradition of changing the banner of the site to celebrate the boys’ birthdays.  Each banner will be made up of photos of that child in that week so that later in life we can see their growth and development.  Harry has the honour of being the first face on a banner.  I hope the quality of the banners will improve over time…. Good times!
